Why Did Mary Kom Step Down from the IOA Athletes' Commission?

Mary Kom, a six-time world champion and London Olympics bronze medallist, has resigned as chairperson of the IOA Athletes' Commission and a member of its executive committee. In a message to the Athletes' Commission's WhatsApp group, she stated, "I am grateful to the IOA for the wonderful experience, but I have decided to step down from my responsibilities. I wish the IOA all the best."

The boxing legend did not provide a reason for her decision. The commission, established in 2022 following IOC guidelines, is largely non-functional. Despite the involvement of stars like PV Sindhu and Abhinav Bindra, no meetings have been held for a long time. Bindra has repeatedly called for the commission to become active, but internal conflicts within the IOA have hindered progress.
