Gill surpasses Babar Azam to become the World No. 1 ODI batter.

Shubman Gill, the star Indian opening batter, continues to be in phenomenal form as he ascends to the top spot in the ODI batter rankings. On February 19, he surpassed former Pakistan captain Babar Azam to claim the No. 1 position with 796 rating points, 23 more than Babar’s 773. This is Gill's second time reaching the No. 1 spot in ODI history.

In the recently concluded three-match ODI series against England, Gill performed brilliantly under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. In the first match in Nagpur, he scored 87 from 96 balls, followed by 60 off 52 balls in the second match in Cuttack. In the final match in Ahmedabad, Gill opened the innings for India and scored an impressive 112 runs. His stellar performances earned him the Player of the Series award, giving India a significant advantage ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.
