A major shake-up for BCCI’s sports science wing as Patel steps down, leaving a crucial void in player rehabilitation and workload management.

Nitin Patel, the head of BCCI’s sports science division, has decided to step away, dealing a potential blow to the newly established Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Patel, instrumental in managing player rehabilitation and injury prevention, is set to depart by the end of the month.

Over the past three years, he has overseen the recovery of key Indian stars like Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul. Most recently, he played a pivotal role in Mohammed Shami’s comeback, ensuring his top-notch performance at the 2025 Champions Trophy.

With Patel’s exit, BCCI is already on the hunt for a worthy successor. The Centre of Excellence, a pet project of former BCCI secretary and current ICC President Jay Shah, remains a cornerstone for India’s cricketing future. As the team gears up for IPL 2025, all eyes are on how BCCI will fill this critical role.
