Historic Breakthrough: Srivalli, Maaya Reach Mumbai Open Quarterfinals

Tennis players Srivalli Bhamidipati and Maaya Rajeshwaran Revadi made history by becoming the first Indian players to reach the singles quarterfinals at a WTA 125 tournament.
Bhamidipati confidently defeated former world number 39 Aleksandra Krunic 6-4, 6-0. And 15-year-old Maaya showed incredible resilience to win the first set against Zarina Diyas (6-3), after which her opponent retired due to illness.
The tournament was a breakthrough for both Indian tennis players: Bhamidipati could rise to 312th in the world rankings, while Maaya, who previously had no WTA ranking, earned her first 33 points.
On Friday, they will try to take another step towards the final: Bhamidipati will face fifth seed Jill Teichmann, while Maaya will face Japan's Mei Yamaguchi.
