Shami and Team India Want to Lift the Saliva Ban in Cricket
Mohammed Shami explains why Team India is urging the ICC to change the saliva rule.
Team India wants the International Cricket Council (ICC) to amend one of its policies, Mohammed Shami stated. Shami, a right-arm fast bowler, feels that a rule altered in 2022 need to be reinstated to its original form. The regulation in issue forbids using saliva on the ball.
This adjustment was carried out during the COVID-19 epidemic in order to reduce the virus transmission risk. Saliva might spread the infection, hence players were not allowed to use it. While perspiration was let for ball maintenance, saliva is necessary for reverse swing by keeping one side of the ball.
Currently competing in the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai, Shami said Team India had often asked the ICC to have the original rule reinstated.
