Mohammed Azharuddeen Makes History in India's Domestic Cricket
In the semifinal of the Ranji Trophy tournament, Kerala's Mohammed Azharuddeen etched his name in sports history by becoming the first local batsman to score a century at this stage of the competition. His unbeaten 149 runs helped his team reach an impressive total of 418/7 by the end of the second day of play.
Mohammed Azharuddeen came to the crease with Kerala struggling at 157/4, forming key partnerships with captain Sachin Baby and Salman Nizar. This century marked his second in first-class cricket, reinforcing his status as one of the most talented players of his generation.
Born in March 1994 in Thalangara, Kasaragod, Mohammed was named after the legendary former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin, at the insistence of his elder brother Kamaruddin, a passionate cricket fan.
