Michael Atherton: England Can Exploit Australia's Weaknesses in Ashes Series
Former England captain Michael Atherton believes England have every chance of exploiting Australia's vulnerabilities in the upcoming Ashes series this winter. The Sky Sports pundit noted that both teams — India and Australia — showed weaknesses during the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
Atherton stressed that the vulnerability of the Australian batting line-up, especially at the top, could be key for England. In addition, the change in playing conditions in Australia could play into the hands of the English bowlers. The new Kookaburra ball, with its higher polish, is expected to last longer, opening up more opportunities for seamers.
However, Australia's bowling attack remains strong, albeit with age restrictions. England, Atherton said, must use their squad and keep their bowlers fit to turn Australia's weaknesses to their advantage.
