Cricket scandal: Gavaskar defends Kohli, denies ICC leniency after clash fine.

Former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar has come out in defence of Virat Kohli after the scuffle incident, saying the International Cricket Council (ICC) did not show him much leniency. The Australian press, including former players Ricky Ponting and Mark Waugh, criticised the ICC's decision, believing that Kohli's punishment was too lenient.

The incident took place on 26 December during the fourth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne. Kohli was fined 20% of the game and given a demerit point. The Australian press suggested that Kohli's star status helped him avoid a harsher punishment.

Referee Andy Pycroft confirmed that the incident was the least serious level, and Gavaskar cited examples of penalties for other players to highlight the consistency in ICC decisions.
