England Urged to Boycott Afghanistan Match
More than 160 British politicians have urged the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to boycott the Champions Trophy match against Afghanistan, which will take place in February 2025. The reason is to put pressure on the Taliban regime over women's rights abuses, including their ban on participation in the sport after the Taliban returned to power in 2021.
According to the rules of the International Cricket Council (ICC), participating countries are supposed to promote the development of women's cricket, but in Afghanistan, women continue to be squeezed to such a limit. The games between the men's teams of England and Afghanistan will be held on February 26 in Lahore.
The ECB supports the position of boycotting matches with Afghanistan and calls for an international response to the tyranny of women in Afghanistan.
