Will the new pay system change the players' strategy and their attitude towards Test cricket?

The BCCI is reportedly considering a performance-based pay system for Indian cricketers, which could include pay cuts for underperforming players. Following disappointing results in recent Test series against New Zealand and Australia, the board is looking to implement a corporate-like structure where players' earnings would be tied to their on-field performances.

Under the proposed system, players who feature in more than 50% of Test matches in a season would earn an incentive, with further rewards for those participating in at least 75% of matches.

The board aims to prioritize Test cricket and address concerns that some players place more importance on white-ball formats. There are also growing concerns among the team management that some players may not fully appreciate the value of Test cricket, with calls for a shift in mindset for future generations.
